MoWR has taken two important steps in the follow-up of National Water Policy, drafting a River Water Management bill 2018 and another is National Water Framework Law, these are important moves in the direction of the subject discussed here. It is hoped that the adoption of NWF will make the states more responsible to value inter-dependance for managing the water resources. Another aspect, which is missed here, is the groundwater development management, presently there is no state has effective law for managing the groundwater, if at all it is existing in some of the states, it is not implemented. Consequently, the area of the over-exploited and critical aquifer is increasing year-on-year and groundwater level is depleting.
