I have worked as Research Officer in "Action Research Programme" initiated by the USAID, for Gudha Irrigation Project. We have worked on a concept of "maximum production per unit of water". We have done improvement in canal system and also trained farmers. Also formed Water User Associations for each chak and canal. I have prepared a paper on the work done in this programme. This is available at https://docs.google.com/document/d/16vvmaVX_Cjdabu1nMzMsvUB4wycOZqIDfxLCsdefraU/edit?usp=drive_web . There are two main categories of problems in canal irrigation systems. ( 1 ) Structural ( 2 ) Management. ( 1 ) until and unless our canal system and field channels system is not properly designed to carry water upto tail and delivering water in required quantities, nothing much can be obtained. ( ( 2 )The preparation of fields to properly use irrigation water in practicable least quantities , is also required, for which farmers are also to be trained. The farmers are to be convinced that more water more crop yield concept is a myth and is incorrect. scientifically, after certain point, if crops are given more water, their yield is reduced. I have written a four page paper in Hindi about the disadvantages of excess irrigation. Anybody interested can write to me for a copy of it at yagrawal@bsnl.in and ycagrawal@yahoo.com. I have also written a paper on - "design and construction of water courses" - . It is available at https://docs.google.com/document/d/1RLP9K8rAo250UhT3qOumawpCbd3VGXohH3xZvC4KwuQ/edit . I shall be happy to share my experiences with anybody, who so ever is interested for working for a theory for maximum crop production per unit of water.
