I am very happy for this new innovative discussions between India and Germany, clean water plays an important role in keeping our health and environment safe.Unfortunately water bodies are heavily contaminated by the growing population and urbanization.Solid waste is getting accumulated everywhere and the local bodies like municipalities, councils are unable to keep them away from the domestic areas. In India we are not practicing the segregation of solid waste and distribute them to the concerned departments for recycling for Ex, green [Domestic] waste collected can be converted as useful composting, other wastes like glass, plastic, paper, metals and chemicals[pesticides/containers] etc should be immediately recycled. All these solid wastes are otherwise thrown every where, and they not only increase the levels of pollution but blocking the drainage, canals and river system and heavily contaminate all the water resources.Unfortunately in India we do not introduce any teaching materials or educational programs to create awareness or care for the solid waste management,I completely agree with Sri Satendra Pal Singh ji,as he rightly said we are only think about potable water, but these pollutants. The other thing is water bodies in the village level in India which are the immediate source for the water storage and water supply in power failure and in emergency,I am a strong believer, that ancient system of keeping our water tanks and wells clean and full of water in every village in the rural areas will provide adequate drinking water. Our water bodies are not only suffering from heavily dumped solid waste, but also occupied by the natural plants and weeds mainly aquatic weeds like Water-hyacinth etc, which completely dominate and block the flowing and clean system, and indirectly create unhealthy situations unhealthy situations as the dead and decayed bodies are heavily blocked, and causing many infectious diseases like malaria, gastroenteritis, and other related diseases.I suggested in our discussions at India Water week 2015 that Biological control or the natural system development is the best way to deal with these pests in aquatic environment as we can use chemicals,as they effect on flora and fauna and other aquatic life.well industrial effluents and indiscriminate use of fertilizers through agricultural run off are also added too. The thought of life with out water or water highly polluted is very scary, hence prevention is better than cure.Every drop of water should be treated as a diamond, from Ganga to the end part of the flow we should respect our water bodies I Highly respect Mr.Hendricks words that " A well functioning waste management system protects the environment and human health, saves resources and is climate friendly and socially suitable.Thank you very much.
