We can see that every state in India has failed to tackle the ground water crisis. Why is a big question to me. Do you thing the policies are not good? or the implementation is not working?

Which state has well defined water lifting policies for Farmers? I am interested to know more about the issue. Please share your views.

groundwater recharging is not done in india. the water table has gone down to 1000- feet in punjab & haryana due to over exploitation. groundwater recharge can be done by making ponds on every free govt land which will fill with rain water during the rainy season. plus every farmer must recharge his bore wells to increase the capacity of the aquefiers as per the experts directions.

This is a problem for many countries.  Authorities need to regulate how much is abstracted (and by who) along with protecting it by regulating the discharges from sewage.  The EU is waking up to the threat caused by diffuse pollution to ground waters.  On their own small septic tanks from single dwellings do not add up to much, but when you have countless ones in any single area the threat they pose is quite real.

Hi Upal.  I am not an expert but from what I have seen, regulation of abstraction is very different to many other countries.  The regulatory and economic framework is very different.
