In flood events of hilly areas (e.g. Uttrakhand floods 2013) landslides cause devastation but drainage is not an issue. In flat lands (e.g. Kosi flood 2008) drainage of flood water is critical. Present Jhelum flood in Srinagar is unique in the sense that it is a flat land so close to hilly areas. Here topographical, geological and hydrological issues need to be addressed simultaneously.
