The agriculture sector consumes major portion of the available ground water and surface water in India. Until and unless, the water use efficiency in agriculture sector and areas in which high water consuming crops are grown ( restrictions like opium) are minimized , nothing is going to improve, even interlinking of rivers. Whether the policy makers of India are waiting for a day when most of the ground water in major portions of India is depleted and is not available for drinking, what to talk for agriculture ?
